I managed to convince people\u00a0(well, it took zero convincing this time, the team\u00a0was more motivated than I) and climb in Fair Head. It was my (and Tereza&#8217;s) first ever trip there &#8211; while for Jirka it was a return after 8 years of absence.<\/p>\n<p>So there we were, yet again on epic adventure trail.\u00a0\u00a0We left on Friday and for a change spent a night at a with a roof over our head(rather than camping) in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.ie\/Hotel_Review-g551726-d7911264-Reviews-Slemish_Barn-Ballymena_County_Antrim_Northern_Ireland.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ballymena&#8217;s\u00a0Slemish Barn<\/a>. It&#8217;s actually a really nice place at very reasonable price point (15GBP for a bed in a dorm room).<br \/>\nThey have very good facilities, with basic breakfast provided (which is a nice touch &#8211; we didn&#8217;t expected it). The owner (Michael) is a very nice guy, and will accept Euro if you ask nicely.<br \/>\nThe place is situated strategically close to Fair Head (40min drive via the coast road, I think it&#8217;d be faster via the other route), and allows for nice &amp; early start in the morning. Obviously camping at the farm on Fri was also an option, but sometimes it&#8217;s nice to treat yourself to a warm bed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2256\" src=\"https:\/\/mic1024.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/08\/20160806_072230.jpg\" alt=\"20160806_072230\" width=\"1223\" height=\"917\" srcset=\"https:\/\/samsel.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/20160806_072230.jpg 1223w, https:\/\/samsel.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/20160806_072230-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/samsel.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/20160806_072230-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/samsel.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/20160806_072230-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1223px) 100vw, 1223px\" \/><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>And that&#8217;s what we&#8217;ve done. Nearly 30m of fantastic bridging and jamming. Gear everywhere, fantastic views &#8211; Fair Head at it&#8217;s finest!<br \/>\nI lead it, and then Tereza (who&#8217;s relatively new to the sport) &#8211; lead it on my pre-placed gear. She actually flew it, without looking back. I&#8217;d say &#8211; teach the girl how to place gear and she&#8217;d be leading HVS on her own \u00a0in no time!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2284\" src=\"https:\/\/mic1024.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/08\/20160806_151436.jpg\" alt=\"20160806_151436\" width=\"688\" height=\"917\" srcset=\"https:\/\/samsel.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/20160806_151436.jpg 688w, https:\/\/samsel.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/20160806_151436-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 688px) 100vw, 688px\" \/><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Jirka collected the gear after us, we abseiled and sent him for what turned out to be the last route of the day &#8211; The Fence, VS 4c.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2287\" src=\"https:\/\/mic1024.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/08\/20160806_160033_001.jpg\" alt=\"20160806_160033_001\" width=\"688\" height=\"917\" srcset=\"https:\/\/samsel.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/20160806_160033_001.jpg 688w, https:\/\/samsel.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/20160806_160033_001-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 688px) 100vw, 688px\" \/><br \/>\nHe enjoyed every single move of this 24m high route. We had a friendly chat about the history of his land (he owns over 400 acres) and climbing in general in the area. The hanging bridge and Giant&#8217;s Causeway are ok, but it&#8217;s nothing special after day like we had the day before. <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/photos\/8V3EqXS63GNGF6yq6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Although the massive waves made quite the impression<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a style=\"line-height:1.7;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bushmills.com\/distillery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bushmills Distillery<\/a><span style=\"line-height:1.7;\"> at the other hand it&#8217;s a different story.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Both of us being admirers of good whiskey couldn&#8217;t miss the chance to visit that place (it&#8217;s been there since 1608!).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2311\" src=\"https:\/\/mic1024.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/08\/20160807_121954.jpg\" alt=\"20160807_121954.jpg\" width=\"1223\" height=\"917\" srcset=\"https:\/\/samsel.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/20160807_121954.jpg 1223w, https:\/\/samsel.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/20160807_121954-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/samsel.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/20160807_121954-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/samsel.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/20160807_121954-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1223px) 100vw, 1223px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We completed very interesting 40min tour around the factory (it&#8217;s operational 24\/7, so there are strict no-photography rules). You get to walk (with a guide) around the production line, as he explains how this fine drink is made. At the end you get to exchange your ticket for a taster of their produce. Jirka actually ended up with 5 shots (since some of our visiting group didn&#8217;t drink whiskey, others were driving), while I picked up a bottle of their 12year old single malt reserve (available only at their factory shop, nowhere else!).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2313\" src=\"https:\/\/mic1024.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/08\/20160807_134828.jpg\" alt=\"20160807_134828\" width=\"1223\" height=\"917\" srcset=\"https:\/\/samsel.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/20160807_134828.jpg 1223w, https:\/\/samsel.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/20160807_134828-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/samsel.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/20160807_134828-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/samsel.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/20160807_134828-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1223px) 100vw, 1223px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That concluded our short outing to The North. Drive back to Dublin was uneventful.
